The incident occurred before 5:11 am near Route 2 and Route 78 in Stonington.  The pedestrian was flown by Life Star to an area hospital, with serious injuries.  A gray vehicle reportedly fled the scene, heading north on Route 2.

Of course fleeing the scene of accident violates the law.  However, that does not typically help accident victims in these situations.  Fortunately, the attorneys at Jackson O’Keefe have the knowledge and experience to help accident victims in these cases.  From a legal perspective, you must first investigate whether there may be insurance coverage available to the victim and take appropriate steps to notify the insurer(s) in compliance with the insurance policy requirements.  Policy requirements in hit-and-run accidents can be very specific and counter-intuitive.  Noncompliance can result in the loss of such coverage.

Additionally, steps should be taken to follow up with the authorities to assist in locating the perpetrator.
