A court can award damages for medical expenses, loss of wages, and pain and suffering at a hearing in damages.  The plaintiff, Mister Jenkins, alleged that he was crossing the street, using the designated crosswalk when the light was in his favor, when the defendant’s motor vehicle collided tih him.  Allegedly, the plaintiff sustained sprains and strains to his back and neck and a laceration to his shoulder, which was scarred.  The plaintiff’s medical expenses were $31,391.  He also lost $500 in wages. The defendants were defaulted for failure to appear.  At a hearing in damages, the court awarded the plaintiff $31,891 in economic damages and $43,109 in non-economic damages, for pain and suffering.  The court also awarded prejudgment interest of 10 percent per year, pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes § 37-3b.
