Category: DUI Drunk Driving Accidents

The suspect was arrested at 970 Newfield Street in Middletown on November 5. He was observed by police to be driving erratically, crossing the center line and swerving. He was arrested after a struggle. Thankfully there was no accident and the police were able to stop this driver before a disaster occurred. He was found to have cocaine in his possession as well. To drive defensively, be aware of indicators of drunk driving: Straddling the center lane or lane marker Almost striking objects or vehicles Making very wide turns Weaving from one side of the road to the other Driving on the wrong side of the road or on the shoulder Driving at very slow speeds Following another car too closely Narrowly missing another car or object by passing too closely Braking erratically Driving without headlights Signaling inconsistently with what they are doing Stopping inappropriately in places such as at green lights and crosswalks with no pedestrians Running stop signs or red lights If you suspect that the driver is drunk or impaired: stay away, expect the unexpected, pull over and call 911. If you or a loved one has been a victim of a drunk driver, you need to know that the civil court system allows victims to recover financial compensation for the injuries and other damages the drunk driver caused. Our attorneys can pursue a drunk driving accident claim and obtain financial compensation for your injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and property damage. If the drunk driver who caused the crash was legally intoxicated, we can pursue punitive damages for the injury victim. Punitive or exemplary damages can significantly increase the amount of compensation a drunk driving accident victim receives. Additionally, Connecticut awards double or triple compensatory damages in certain circumstances. These types of damages are designed to financially punish and make an example of the drunk driver who caused the collision.
